Cup Final Officials Announced for 2008

We are delighted to be able to reveal that blind cricket's most experienced and most popular umpire Clive Spencer has accepted the invitation to umpire this year's BBS Primary Club National Knockout Cup Final.

Spencer who has been umpiring blind cricket since 1974 is head of Physical Education at New College Worcester and around 50 players previously coached by Clive are expected to be named in the squads for this years competition.

This is the first time in around 7 years Clive will have officiated at Lords after turning down more recent invitations due to other commitments.

He will be joined by experienced Eastern Vipers umpire Dennis Chapman who will be officiating his 3rd consecutive final. Dennis is an experienced red ball cricket umpire who has also done more than 50 games of blind cricket as well as officiating in the international form of the game.

The head scorer will for the 6th year in a row be Steve Field who usually officiates for Sussex. Steve has also been England scorer for the last two home series's against Pakistan and India. He is universally agreed to be the best scorer in UK blind cricket.

A second scorer will be named nearer the August 9th date for the final.

Upon naming the officials BBS Cricket Chairman Dave Gavrilovic told us:

"We are really pleased that Clive Spencer has agreed to umpire this years final. Clive is well known by the vast majority of the blind cricket circuit and will I'm sure be a very popular appointment. Dennis is also an excellent umpire and is someone with an excellent command of the rules and like Clive he is completely impartial. Steve is a top quality scorer so again we are delighted to have got our first choice for all three appointments.

"We are looking at the second scorers position to give a less experienced up and coming umpire the chance to get some cup final experience without the pressure of being out in the middle."
